My oh my, we appear to have a catfight of letters and passive-aggressive comments on social media here. Apparently, the MTV Music Video Awards completely ignored Minaj’s video for Anaconda, which infuriated her and caused her to vent on Twitter. She said that if she were a ‘different’ kind of artist, referring to either her colour or the fact that she’s not your average slim model (or both), she would have certainly been nominated for video of the year.
Then Taylor Swift (whose video was in fact nominated) decided to jump in, apparently taking Minaj’s tweets personally. She claims that she has always supported her, but that she (Minaj) shouldn’t ”pit women against each other.” That’s when Minaj went all “aw hell nah”-like and claimed that Swift shouldn’t be using the “support all girls” moral side as an excuse “to not be critical of racist media that benefits and glorifies you.”
The beef went on for some time, and then Kim Kardashian decided to show up (?), and state her important opinion on the matter. Moreover, Nicki Minaj’s boyfriend, rapper Meek Mill, thought it would be a perfect opportunity to bash fellow rapper Drake (??) and by the end of the day, Bruno Mars joined in on the fray saying “Yo I want in on this twitter Beef!! VMAs is the new WWF!! @edsheeran F*** You!”
Welcome to the 21st century, enjoy your stay!
