Tracy Morgan’s lawyer says that his client suffered a debilitating brain injury in the June car crash that killed one of his friends, comedian James McNair, and it’s still unknown whether he will be able to perform again.
“The jury’s still out. The doctors don’t know the answer. I don’t know the answer.”
Speaking to the New York Post, attorney Benedict Morelli said that the 30 Rock star is still undergoing rehab, including daily speech, cognitive, vocational and physical therapies.
“He has to use the wheelchair anytime he’s out and about. He can’t do that many steps. He’s still unsteady. He has this head injury, and his leg isn’t totally better yet. He has to struggle to inch along.”
Morgan was returning from a performance in Delaware in June when a Walmart truck hit the back of the limo he and several others were riding in.
Walmart said in a court filing Monday that Morgan and his companions caused their injuries “in whole or in part” because they weren’t wearing seatbelts.
Morgan issued a statement in which he rejected Walmart’s claims.
“After I heard what Walmart said in court I felt I had to speak out. I can’t believe Walmart is blaming me for an accident that they caused. My friends and I were doing nothing wrong. I want to thank my fans for sticking with me during this difficult time. I love you all. I’m fighting hard every day to get back.”
