Kendrick Lamar’s new album titled “To Pimp a Butterfly,” has broken streaming records on Spotify. His tracks had over 9.6 million streams on the album’s first full day of release, more than any LP in the service’s seven-year history.
The album beat the record of 9.5 million set by Michael Buble’s “Christmas”, from 2011.
There was much anticipation over Lamar’s latest break into the music business and it grew even more when the album was released a week early.
“I WOULD LIKE 2 PERSONALLY THANK @Interscope FOR F**KING UP OUR RELEASE.SOMEBODY GOTS 2 PAY 4 THIS MISTAKE !!!!”
According to Time, the CEO of Lamar’s label appeared to blame Interscope for the album’s release, which was originally scheduled for next week. In recent years, artists including D’Angelo and Beyoncé have used surprise releases to generate fame and buzz.
Kanye West seemed to like it.
