21. Thora Birch
Much like her colleague from American Beauty, Mena Suvari, Thora Birch was also a promising up-and-coming actress. She was poised to become one of those character actresses who didn’t rely on their looks to make it big in Hollywood. She definitely had the acting chops.
She flaunted those acting chops in 2001, with her role in Ghost World where she and Scarlett Johansson showed the world the future of Hollywood. The only problem for Thora is that she didn’t turn out to be a part of that future.
It is a well-known fact that she became increasingly difficult to work with, which in combination with her manager/father also being an unreasonable person according to insiders, resulted in Thora getting very little to no work in the following years.
Still, for a brief moment in the early 2000s, she was the hipster Hollywood star before hipsters were even a thing.
