3. Hugh Grant
British leading man Hugh Grant was arrested for misdemeanor lewd conduct in June 1995 when he was caught cheating on his girlfriend Elizabeth Hurley with prostitute Divine Brown in his car on Hollywood’s Sunset Boulevard.
Hurley, whom he started dating in 1987, decided not to leave him and stood by his side for another five years before they split.
Grant’s subsequent Tonight Show interview (during which Jay Leno famously asked, ‘‘What the hell were you thinking?’’) slightly redeemed him as audiences appreciated his honesty and unwillingness to find excuses for his behavior.
Here’s what he said:
“I think you know in life what’s a good thing to do and what’s a bad thing, and I did a bad thing. And there you have it.”
Brown, on the other hand, made a fortune thanks to Grant and used money from her fame to buy a four-bedroom house and put her kids through school.
