21. Eddie Fisher and Elizabeth Taylor (and Richard Burton)
Hollywood singer and entertainer Eddie Fisher and actress Debbie Reynolds were America’s sweethearts, but that didn’t stop Fisher from cheating on her with no other than Elizabeth Taylor, one of the greatest movie stars of all time.
After Taylor’s third husband and Fisher’s best friend Mike Todd died in a plane crash, Fisher consoled the legendary actress and they fell madly in love with each other. Fisher and Reynolds divorced in 1959, the same year he married Taylor. Though their relationship caused a huge scandal at the time, Reynolds eventually forgave Taylor and they continued to be friends until Elizabeth’s death in 2011.
On the other hand, Fisher and Taylor’s love story didn’t have a happy end. After five years of marriage, one of the most beautiful women who ever lived began an affair with Hollywood legend Richard Burton – who was also married. Another scandal ensued and even the Vatican condemned their romance as ‘erotic vagrancy’.
Throughout the years, the couple married, divorced, remarried and redivorced, but Taylor once said that Burton, along with Todd and jewelry, was one of the three lovers of her life.
