“We’re not friends, but I will care about him until the day I die.”
In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, famous American singer and superstar Rihanna discussed her on-and-off relationship with R&B star Chris Brown. They dated from 2008 to 2009, but their relationship ended suddenly when Brown assaulted her. After a brief reunion in 2012, they split once more a year later.
The main question was why she had given Brown a second chance, to which she responded with:
“I was very protective of him. I felt that people didn’t understand him. Even after… But you know, you realize after a while that in that situation you’re the enemy.”
Rihanna admitted that the assault case isn’t completely behind her, and she added that it’s a very serious thing that’s still relevant.
To quote her:
“It’s still real.”
She also gave some advice to others dealing with domestic abuse and strongly objected to hiding these situations from the world, even though the publicity surrounding her case with Brown didn’t help her at all.
Here’s what she said about her current relationship with Brown:
“We’re not friends, but it’s not like we’re enemies. We don’t have much of a relationship now.”
Despite everything that happened between them, it would seem that Brown left a strong impression on Rihanna and that she will always have a place for him in her heart.
