There are a number of controversies following the Winter Olympics in Sochi, and the most recent one is the arrest of human rights activists Nadezhda Tolokonnikova and Maria Alekhina.
The Pussy Riot stars, who were released from jail in December last year after a notorious case, were arrested again at the site of the Winter Olympics. Cops suspect they committed robbery.
C’mon guys, really?
Tolokonnikova immediately wrote on her Twitter page, “We have been arrested… and are accused of robbery… At the time of our detention, we weren’t engaged in any protests, we were walking around Sochi. We were walking.”
However, it’s still unknown whether the activists will face any charges as there seems to no circumstantial evidence of the robbery.
The members of Pussy Riot performed a punk song against the totalitarian regime of President Vladimir Putin at a church in Moscow, and afterwards were arrested and sentenced to two years in prison. During the same year, 2012, Yekaterina Samutsevich was released after her sentence was nulled.
We guess 100,000 police officers who work to secure the Winter Olympics were not in a mood for another performance that would bring the issue of human rights violation in the spotlight again.
