Melissa Rivers, making her first TV appearance since the August 28 death of her mother, famous comedienne Joan Rivers, has opened up about the support she has received from her fans.
One of those fans was President Barack Obama himself.
In a clip from Fashion Police: Celebrating Joan, airing at 8 p.m. on E!, Melissa talked about Joan’s audience.
“She affected so many people, and people you would never expect to have humor. I received a letter from the White House, President Obama, someone who was often a target of her jokes, as was Mrs. Obama, but I received a hand-written note saying ‘Not only did she make us laugh, she made us think.’”
“I think that’s one of the things that people now are realizing. It wasn’t just the funny. She made us think.”
