Backstreet Boys singer Nick Carter married his girlfriend Laureen Kitt on April 12, but his family members were not among the guests who celebrated his happiest day.
The happy couple exchanged their vows in a romantic ceremony in Santa Barbara, California, but among 100 attendees, his family was missing.
The 34-year old singer told In Touch magazine, “My family’s always had a complicated dynamic. At the end of the day, the people who love us were there.”
He also stated that his brother, Aaron, should have served as a groomsman, but wasn’t able to make it to the wedding due to flight delays.
Nick’s bandmates were his reason to smile, as the whole band came to make sure everything goes smoothly.
He said, “These guys are my family.”
Carter’s family partly blame him for the tragic death of his sister Leslie, who died in 2012 of a drug overdose.
He then chose not to attend her funeral. He opened up about it in 2013, when he said, “I actually got the phone call from my father that she had passed. Immediately the conversation turned into not about her death and not about the actual passing and what had occurred, but more about themselves. And then I started to get blamed by the rest of the family.”
“I have a large family and they all went there – they were blaming me for the death.”
“The message from them was that if you had been there for her, she would be alive today… I felt it was unfair. Especially with all the things I have done… for them.”
