Miley Cyrus’s homeless friend Jesse Helt, 22, has a police record and an open warrant out for his arrest in his native Oregon. Helt was Cyrus’s date at the MTV VMAs on Sunday, where he also gave a speech and accepted the award for Best Video on behalf of the pop star. However, the police seem to be looking for the charming young man. Court records obtained by ABC News showed he was arrested for “criminal mischief” and “attempted burglary” in 2010. The burglary was later changed to “criminal trespass.” Helt admitted he had tried to break into an apartment in the middle of a marijuana dispute.

Helt violated probation in 2011 and an arrest warrant was issued. Cyrus tweeted on Tuesday, saying:
