Although a medical examiner revealed last week that Joan Rivers suffered brain damage during the fatal throat procedure last month, it seems that the late comedienne’s daughter Melissa denied the autopsy in the first place.
Even though the coroner gave a brief outline of the cause of Joan’s death, the specific details may never be revealed to the public.
“OCME [Office of the Chief Medical Examiner] has completed its investigation. The cause of Ms. Rivers’ death is anoxic encephalopathy due to hypoxic arrest during laryngoscopy and upper gastrointestinal endoscopy with propofol sedation for evaluation of voice changes and gastroesophageal reflux disease. The manner of death is therapeutic complication. The classification of a death as a therapeutic complication means that the death resulted from a predictable complication of medical therapy.”
On October 16, Melissa took to Twitter to say that the entire family is still devastated by their loss and are not interested in discussing the autopsy report.
“In response to the NYC’s Medical examiner’s report, we continue to be saddened by our tragic loss. No further comment at this time.”
