‘New Kids On The Block’ star Joey McIntyre celebrated the success of completing the Boston Marathon on Monday, April 21, a year after the bombings.
The star was among 20,000 other runners taking part in the annual race in Massachusetts on April 15, 2013 when two explosions blasted through the crowd close to the finish line.
Joey had crossed the line 11 minutes after the explosions. How he had his running sneakers once again on Monday, April 21, to run in honor of his mother who suffers from Alzheimer’s, and to honor his home town.
He completed the 26.2 mile (42.2 kilometer) race nine minutes faster than his trek in 2013.
He took to Twitter.com to share his new record with fans, saying, “3:48:11 baby!!! #BostonMarathon. Couldn’t have done it without you guys!!”
He also admired his bandmate Danny Wood who ran with him. He said, “Big congrats 4 (sic) an amazing 3:50 by my man @dannywood! #celebrate.”
At the finish line, they were welcomed by their fellow band member Donnie Walhberg. His brother, Jim Wahlberg had also finished the marathon.
Boston Marathon 2014 draws 36,000 runners one year after the bombings took place. Some of the survivors also ran the race, and even those who were hurt and left handicapped.
