The names on the list of legendary artists who have died in 2016 continues to increase every day it seems. The newest addition is soul singer Billy Paul, who died at his New Jersey residence on Sunday at the age of 81.

Paul was best known for his 1972 hit single “Me and Mrs. Jones,” which dominated charts for three weeks straight that year. Paul also took gome a Grammy that year for the song. He was also a fairly prominent figure as a celebrity that was one of the central figures in the black power movement.

According to his manager, Paul was battling cancer. He was seen several weeks ago in Philadelphia, apparently getting treatment for his cancer at Temple University.

Even though it wasn’t really much of a hit, Paul had another track called “Let’s Make a Baby” in 1975 that caused a lot of controversy for its sexual content and had many religious figures calling for the track to be pulled from radio stations.
