One of the most influential producers in the history of modern music, Sir George Martin, has passed away at the age of 90. Martin will, of course, be most remembered for producing some of The Beatles most critically-acclaimed and popular albums. However, Sir George produced well over 700 albums during his illustrious career.
Tributes poured out from around the world. They were, naturally, led by Beatles members, most notably Sir Paul McCartney, who called the late Martin a visionary and musical genius.
Commonly referred to as the “Fifth Beatle,” Martin helped to shape and create much of the band’s classic material. McCartney referred to him as a true gentleman and as a second father to him.
Martin guided the Beatles career, choosing to work with them after hearing their first demo in 1962. He went on to help the band navigate its many musical transitions, from the “mop top” era through the psychedelic experimentation the band turned to in the 1970s.
