A short movie that has been playing at a few film festivals throughout the year features Stephen Collins as a pedophile priest. Penance, from the Emmy-winning Jeff Wolfe, also stars David Lyons as a man who seeks guidance from the priest.
Stephen Collins is the priest he visits to clear his conscience and discover exactly what it means to find forgiveness – or to give it.
This is the summary of the 10-minute-long movie that strangely coincides with Collins’ real life investigation for child molestation.
Wolfe says that the movie was made in 2013, before the child abuse allegations hit the headlines.
I found the recent allegations particularly shocking, as my film is meant to speak to victims of abuse and the idea that the effects of abuse never really go away.
Since Collins confessed to the molestations on tape, the former 7th Heaven star has been under investigation by the NYPD, has lost a job on the ABC show Scandal, was cut from Ted 2 and has been dropped from his talent agency.
