After Macklemore & Ryan Lewis won the Best New Artist award and three other trophies at the recent Grammys, Macklemore tried to demonstrate their solidarity by sending the message “You got robbed. I wanted you to win” to Kendrick Lamar.
However, rapper Drake attacked him insisting his apology was “cheap”.
It seems Drake didn’t consider his message as generous as it was supposed to be.
Even though Lamar shared his gratitude for Macklemore’s kind words on his Instagram page, Drake considered the message to be unnecessary, telling Rolling Stone magazine, “That s**t was wack as f**k.”
The rapper continued, “I was like, ‘You won. Why are you posting your text message? Just chill. Take your win, and if you feel you didn’t deserve it, go get better – make better music.’”
“It felt cheap. It didn’t feel genuine. Why do that? Why feel guilt? You think those guys would pay homage to you if they won?”
Drake’s rage continued after he insisted Macklemore should’ve addressed all the nominees in the category, not just Lamar.
“To name just Kendrick? That s**t made me feel funny. No, in that case, you robbed everybody. We all need text messages!” finished Drake.
