Dr. Shepherd Is Leaving Grey’s Anatomy
It is official: Patrick Dempsey is hanging up his white coat and leaving Grey’s Anatomy after 11 seasons playing the role of Dr. Derek Shepherd on the Emmy-winning medical drama.
SPOILERS AHEAD – If you still haven’t seen the April 23 episode of the show, you might want to stop reading right now.
In the said episode, Dr. Shepherd was involved in a car accident and it was up to Meredith Grey (played by Ellen Pompeo) to decide whether to keep her husband on life support. According to the official statement, she will decide against it.
Namely, the creator of Grey’s Anatomy, Shonda Rhimes has definitely confirmed that the actor will be leaving the show after the 11th season, saying:
“Derek Shepherd is and will always be an incredibly important character — for Meredith, for me and for the fans,”
She also added:
“His loss will be felt by all. Now, Meredith and the entire ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ family are about to enter uncharted territory as we head into this new chapter of her life.”
