Demi Lovato isn’t just a singer who makes fun pop music. She’s great at that too, of course, but she is equally excellent at talking about personal struggles. Her new album has one song in particular that is very personal, a song about her late dad called “Father.”
Lovato talked about the song and her father, saying that she didn’t really have a good relationship with him. The singer said that her father suffered from a serious mental illness and that caused him to be abusive to her and her mom at times.
Lovato knows what mental illnesses are like, since she also suffered from bi-polar disorder growing up.
Her father passed away after a battle with cancer in 2013, and even though Lovato admits that she had not been in contact with him since 2007, she was still very sad to hear about his death.
The song, featured on her new album “Confident,” helped her deal with these issues.
