Charlie Sheen revealed in an interview on the Today show earlier today that he is HIV positive. He learned of his diagnosis in 2011 after suffering from “insane” headaches accompanied by profuse sweating. Since then, he’s been losing millions of dollars to keep people who know about his illness quiet.
His doctor stated that the 50-year-old actor is still in good health and that the viral load is undetectable. He also commended Sheen for his responsible behavior, saying that he hasn’t missed a single dose of his daily anti-retroviral medication.
Sheen also admitted that life hasn’t been easy for him since he found out about the illness.
Here’s what he told show host Matt Lauer:
“It’s a hard three letters to absorb. It’s a turning point in one’s life.”
The actor claimed that he’s currently clean but added that he still dabbles in alcohol from time to time.
Heather Locklear sent her message of support to Sheen before he officially disclosed his diagnosis. She posted a photo of her and the actor on Instagram, captioning it: “My heart hurts. Prayers for Charlie and his family.”
