A representative for Casey Kasem’s daughter says the beloved radio host’s unburied body is still at a funeral home in Tacoma, Washington, an astonishing month after the star’s death.
Danny Deraney, publicist for Kerri Kasem, says his children from his first marriage hope he will be buried at Forest Lawn cemetery in Glendale, California, as he desired.
Kasem died on June 15 at a hospital in Washington State. Deraney says the host’s second wife, Jean Kasem, has the rights to his body but, however, has not yet arranged for him to be buried.
Hospital representative Scott Thompson with St. Anthony Hospital says Kasem’s wife collected his remains from the hospital after he died, but Thompson did not know what arrangements she actually made.
A call to Jean Kasem’s attorney was not returned on Tuesday, July 15.
Casey dominated the radio from 1970 until his retirement in 2009, and left a powerful legacy. Yet at the end of his life, Kasem’s name appeared in headlines for a different reason: a legal battle as his family debated the best health care for the ailing radio star. A rift that dated back years between Jean and children from his first marriage deepened as his health deteriorated.
He was wrongfully diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2007, a diagnosis that was later changed to a progressive brain disorder called Lewy body dementia.
