Rapper Benzino’s nephew was ordered to remain in jail without the right to be released on bail. He was sent to jail after being accused of trying to kill his hip-hop uncle at a family funeral.
His 36-year old nephew, Gai Scott, was arrested and charged with armed assault with intent to murder. Allegedly, he shot Benzino in the shoulder while he was in the funeral procession in Duxbury, Massachusetts on Saturday, March 29th.
Scott appeared in Plymouth District Court on Monday, March 31st and his attorney advocated that Scott fired the gun in self-defense. The not-guilty plea was entered.
According to a police report filed in court, Scott told investigators his uncle pulled up beside him in the lane, rolled down his window and said, “You got a problem with me,” and then threatened to kill him.
On April 2nd, Judge J. Thomas Kirkman denied him bail following a separate hearing.
Defense attorney Jon Ciraulo asked Kirkman to set bail at $35,000, ordered Scott to be confined to his home to undergo GPS monitoring and to give up his guns.
The rapper, real name Raymond Scott, was immediately hospitalized and is now recovering from injuries.
On Wednesday, April 2nd, he politely thanked his fans for supporting him on his Twitter profile with a statement that read, “I really appriciate everybodies (sic) kind words and prayers, I’m truly grateful and blessed, it helped me alot.(sic)”
