Olympic Swimmer Ian Thorpe Found Disorientated And Confused

Ian-Thorpe

Five-time Olympic gold medalist Ian Thorpe was checked into a rehabilitation clinic today. Namely, police found him disorientated and confused in Sydney, a few blocks from his parent’s house, where he has recently been staying.

Neighbors called the police in the early hours of today after raising concerns about his behavior after when he was taken to the nearby Bansktown hospital.

The former Olympic swimmer’s manager James Erskine told that Ian’s been on prescription medication, including anti-depressants and painkillers after a shoulder operation last week.

Erskine said, “He had not been drinking. There was no alcohol involved. He was disorientated and tried to get in to what he thought was a friend’s car… He has mentioned in his autobiography that he suffers from depression and it is an awful thing to have. He has got to get better and he is going to need outside help. He has got to confront the problems and get better.”

“He’ll get through this. I’m sure he will get through it. He is going to need help and expert help and everyone pulling from him. His mum said to me that he was always the perfect schoolboy. He has huge expectations on himself. I think the fact that everyone is pulling for him that would make it a lot easier. He has never been a person who wants to disappoint anybody.”

Last year, Thorpe revealed in his autobiography that he had been thinking of suicide and drank alcohol in order to cope with his depression.
