Remember last year when Hollywood celebrity Johnny Depp’s wife Amber Heard was arrested in Australia for apparently smuggling two dogs into the country? Well, that trial started today, during which Heard pleaded guilty to charges.
Luckily for her, the more serious charges of illegal importation have been dropped. Had she been found guilty of those charges, Heard could have faced up to 10 years in prison.
However, she is pleading guilty to providing false immigration documents for her two Yorkshire terriers, Boo and Pistol.
More than likely, Depp and his wife will end up paying steep fines of up to $8,000 and the Australian government is going to make an example of them, to show that the laws for bringing animals into the country are the same for everyone – Hollywood A-listers and celebrities included.
The dogs were brought into the country illegally back in May of last year, when Depp and Heard were coming to Australia so that Johnny could start filming the fifth installment of the Pirates of the Caribbean series.
