Beyoncé Super Bowl Performance Ushers In The End Of Coldplay

The Super Bowl 50 halftime show started off a little slow yesterday, with Coldplay playing their “rock music for soccer moms” hits to millions around the world who were watching. But once Beyoncé and Bruno Mars entered the fray, that’s when the show truly became “super.”
Mars was good, certainly more entertaining than Coldplay, but Queen Bey was on another level. The best thing about Beyoncé’s performance was that she wasn’t not afraid to make a statement. Instead of just performing all of her “safe” hits, she sang a new song called “Formation” that has a strong political and social message to it.
The song is an ode to the victims of Hurricane Katarina in New Orleans and is closely connected to the #BlackLivesMatter movement. We saw Beyoncé and her danced dressed in a “militant” style, like a fabulous version of the Black Panthers – in black berets and with Afros and leather uniforms.
Once Beyoncé stepped on the field, Colplay became all but a distant memory to anyone watching. Too bad that ended up coming back into the show at the end of it.
