Born Norma Jeane Mortenson, Marilyn Monroe was the third daughter of a Hollywood negative-cutter who, once divorced, was unable to take care of her children, especially the youngest, Norma. So the girl went from one foster home to another, with her mom accompanying her and occasionally taking care of her until she was permanently institutionalized for paranoid schizophrenia. Monroe spent her entire childhood going from one foster home to another, and claimed that during that time she was even sexually abused. It wasn’t until her first modeling and movie roles in her late teens that she managed to escape that sad, bleak life.
