After much controversy, Sony Pictures has decided to release the much talked-about movie The Interview. The comedy film will be released to a limited number of theaters -mostly indie ones – on Dec. 25. This announcement comes just days after Sony pulled the Seth Rogen-James Franco film because of security threats from North Korea.
Since Hollywood, the public and even president Obama criticized the studio’s move, Sony decided to show the movie.
Sony Pictures Chief Executive Michael Lynton confirmed the news in the following statement:
“We have never given up on releasing ‘The Interview’ and we’re excited our movie will be in a number of theaters on Christmas Day.
While we hope this is only the first step of the film’s release, we are proud to make it available to the public and to have stood up to those who attempted to suppress free speech.”
Rogen and Franco couldn’t hide their joy after hearing the announcement.
“The people have spoken! Freedom has prevailed! VICTORY!!!!!!! The PEOPLE and THE PRESIDENT have spoken!!!”
