6. Valerie Bertinelli And Eddie Van Halen

Married for a whopping 26 years, Valerie filed for divorce in 2007 stating that she just couldn’t live with his drug habit. According to Bertinelli, Eddie refused to quit even after losing a third of his tongue due to cancer.

Valerie Bertinelli was born in Wilmington, Delaware. Her father was a General Motors executive. In her early teens, her father was transferred to a GM assembly plant in the Detroit, Michigan area and her family resided in Clarkston, Michigan. There she attended Clarkston Middle School. Later, her father again was transferred to another GM automotive plant in Van Nuys, California. She became neighborhood friends of the daughter of a TV producer and soon enrolled in the Tami Lynn School of Artists to study acting.

She’s best remembered for her starring role as daughter Barbara Cooper Royer in One Day at a Time (1975).

Edward Van Halen was born on January 26, 1955 in Nijmegen, Gelderland, Netherlands. He has been married to Janie Liszewski since June 27, 2009.

His father, Jan van Halen, was an accomplished sax and clarinet musician. He appeared on clarinet on “Big Bad Bill (Is Sweet William Now)” on the “Diver Down” album (released on April 14th, 1982).

He’s also a recovering alcoholic; Eddie’s father died of complications from alcoholism, and, reportedly, his paternal grandfather was an alcoholic too.

He didn’t speak any English when he and his family first immigrated to America.

While he is often credited as inventing the “tapping” technique, this is actually not true. The technique had been around for many years; he only popularized it within the rock and roll genre.
