9. Michael J Fox
The Back to the Future legend was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease in the early 90’s, but held it back from the public for almost a decade. It took a while for Fox to come to terms with his diagnosis, and he took to the bottle for many years. However, today he’s sober and a strong advocate for Parkinson’s disease research and has also set up a foundation dedicated to it.
On Parkinson’s Disease Foundation’s official website, they write, “Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a chronic and progressive movement disorder, meaning that symptoms continue and worsen over time. Nearly one million people in the US are living with Parkinson’s disease. The cause is unknown, and although there is presently no cure, there are treatment options such as medication and surgery to manage its symptoms.”
