18. David Garrard
David Garrard played in the NFL for twelve seasons. He is best remembered as the starting quarterback for the Jacksonville Jaguars in the period between 2007 and 2010. His treatment preceded these “golden years” of his career. The autoimmune disease he was treated for? Crohn’s disease.
According to him, he suffered the symptoms for three months before he started realizing that the conditions that was bothering him could be something more than just a stomach virus. The doctors immediately diagnosed him with Crohn’s and he had to undergo surgery where 12 inches of his intestine were removed.
Today, Garrard is the spokesman for In the Zone for Crohn’s, a CCFA campaign which raises money for research into this debilitating disease. Good for him.
