17. Lauren Alaina
American Idol star Lauren Alaina may have come close to winning the series, but is also a serious loser, having lost an incredible 25 pounds thanks to a change of diet and being introduced to something called “portion control”.
Lauren Alaina Kristine Suddeth was born on November 8, 1994, to Kristy and J.J. Suddeth of Rossville, Georgia. She is a strong Christian and often states that she lives for Jesus Christ.
She attended Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe High School in Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia, where she was a cheerleader.
Lauren was inspired to sing by her cousin, Holly Witherow, who was diagnosed with a brain tumor and auditioned for the tenth season of American Idol in Nashville, Tennessee.
After her audition, Idol judge Steven Tyler stated “We found the one.” On May 25, 2011, Alaina was declared the runner-up. Six months later, Alaina released her debut album Wildflower, which debuted at number five on the US Billboard 200 chart and sold 69,000 copies the first week.
In an interview for Us Weekly, she explained her weight loss: “Changing my diet was the big thing. I had to learn correct portion control.”
Alaina also commented on her day-to-day diet: “I eat an egg-white omelette for breakfast, shrimp and veggies for lunch and chicken with asparagus for dinner.”
