The fresh-faced Tobey McGuire made such an impression in Spiderman that you could be fooled into thinking that he’s still in his twenties – but you’d be wrong. He actually turned 40 recently.
Maguire started acting professionally in the early 1990’s. It’s a little known fact that he actually starred in Empire Records, but due to a drinking problem requested to be released from his part, so we never got to see him in one of the coolest movies of the MTV generation. He got over his addiction issue and went on to make The Ice Storm, Ride with the Devil and, finally, the Spiderman movies, which launched him to stardom.
Trivia: when he put on the Spiderman suit at the age of 27, Maguire was way older than Peter Parker, a teen, is supposed to be. A true Peter Pan, Maguire will probably forever look at least 20 years younger than he really is.
