7. Natalie Portman

Oscar-winning actress Natalie Portman might be a much bigger geek than you’ve thought. She’s a Harvard graduate with a degree in psychology, but also a scientific journalist and political activist.

In her CV, you’ll also find that she’s fluent in French, Japanese, German, Arabic and Hebrew. One of her notable quotes was, “I’m going to college. I don’t care if it ruins my career. I’d rather be smart than a movie star”. Wow, just wow!

The star with both looks and the brains was born in Jerusalem, Israel, in 1981 as Natalie Hershlag, but found her granny’s maiden name easier for carrier purposes. Born to an Israeli physician and an American artist, she soon masterd both languages, and developed an interest for more.

She moved to the US when she was three and started modeling at 11, but that did not distract her from the studies. Portman finished school with straight A’s, and was considered a geek, which didn’t affect her much.

Her versatile personality urged her to take up numerous extracurricular activities, such as jazz, dance, ballet, and tap dancing. Portman’s rich education includes Charles E. Smith Jewish Day School in Washington, DC, a Jewish elementary school after her family moved to New York.

Portman never ceases to amaze with her wit, as she co-authored one, and wrote another, paper that competed on the national level, while still at school. She even skipped the premiere of “Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace,” where she played Queen Amidala, to study for her high school final exams.

She later graduated with honors and a 4.0 GPA from Long Island High School in 1999. She also shifted between her college and carrier while studying at Harvard. She graduated as a physician and began taking graduate courses at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. She was also a guest lecturer at Columbia University. Wow! Just wow!
