We all know that she owes everything to Harry Potter, but did you know that she got the role without any acting experience? Yes, young Emma only played in school plays before her big break, but she was so good at her audition that they immediately hired her to play Hermione Granger. She was only nine years old.

The first casting for Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone (released as Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone in the United States) began in 1999. The movie adaptation of British J. K. Rowling’s best-selling novel organized the casting and the agents were looking for a talented girl to play Hermione. The agents found Emma through her Oxford theatre teacher, and producers immediately loved her confidence. After eight auditions, producer David Heyman announced that Emma Watson, Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint have been cast for the roles of the \Hermione Granger, Harry Potter and Ron Weasley. J. K. Rowling was on cast, and she believed Watson was the perfect fit from her the start.

The first movie from the Harry Potter franchise, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone , was released in 2001, the year Watson first appeared on the big screen. The movie was a record-breaker, since from the opening-day and opening-weekend can brag about being the highest-grossing film of 2001.

She was immediately recognized by the critics, singling her out and calling her performance “admirable.” Others admitted that she “stole the show”. Philosopher’s Stone brought her five awards, winning her he Young Artist Award for Leading Young Actress.

Only a year later, Watson appeared on screen again as Hermione in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. The critics really loved her and said she’s developing her talent with every new movie, and even criticizing the production for “under-employing” Watson.
