15. Eddie Murphy: Coming to America

Easily forgotten, Eddie Murphy did not look like himself in this movie at all.

Of course, we all remember his subsequent body transformation in The Nutty Professor, but Coming to America, made in 1988, is very special.

With the make-up and body prosthetics hand-made, without any computer graphics add-ons, his look in this movie was truly a work of art.

The movie was nominated for two Academy Awards, for the Best Costume Design, and the Best Makeup.

Murphy plays four roles in the feature: Prince Akeem, Clarence, Randy Watson, Saul. The 1988 action comedy was directed by John Landis, but the story was originally created by Eddie Murphy.

In the movie, Murphy has the part of an African prince, who goes to America in pursuit of an intelligent and emancipated wife. For the 21st birthday, the customs demand of Prince Akeem of Zamunda to marry a woman he never saw before, in a prearranged marriage.

The prince wishes to break the tradition and travels to America to look for true love.

Akeem and Seimmi, that is, Murphy and his co-star Arsenio Hall, flip a coin to decide who goes to NY and who goes to LA. Both of them end up in Queens, and start working for a fast food joint, where Akeem meets Lisa, whom he falls in love with.

Murphy did an amazing job appearing in four roles, so the tagline “The Four Funniest Men in America are Eddie Murphy” fits perfectly.

The Nutty Professor (1996) did actually win him an Oscar for the best makeup, and nominated for Golden Globe and Bafta. The loquacious comedian is currently filming Beverly Hills Cop 4, Triplets, and Miles and Me is rumored to be in the talks.
