Following a bout with cancer, Good Morning America anchor Robin Roberts took to Facebook and came out in a heartfelt thank you letter to her fans.

She expressed love and gratitude to her fans for all their support during this difficult time in her life, and she openly acknowledged and was especially grateful to her longtime girlfriend, Amber.

For the past 10 years, Robin kept her romance with Amber a secret, until she chose to publicly announce their relationship.

However, Amber has secretly been by Robin’s side and has joined her at numerous public events – watching on proudly as she sat next to her girlfriend’s sisters as the GMA anchor was honored with the ESPN’s Arthur Ashe Award for Courage in July 2013.

The two live together at Robin’s multimillion dollar apartment on Manhattan’s Upper West side, even though Amber does own her own home.

Cancer survivor Robin, a 53-year old, thanked her girlfriend as part of a thank you letter addressed to fans and loved ones, which she posted on her official Facebook page.

“I am grateful for my entire family, my longtime girlfriend, Amber, and friends as we prepare to celebrate a glorious new year together,” she wrote.

A source also told MailOnline that Robin told ABC bosses of her decision to come out, stating, “’This was all Robin, she gave ABC a heads up on Sunday morning and told them she was going to post her message on Facebook. Of course she had everyone’s support.”
