English comedian Alan Carr says he never actually came out because there has never been the need to confirm his sexual preference – it takes only one look at the man to be aware that he is not into ladies. Though he accepts his effeminacy as an inherent part of his being and frequently jokes on the subject, he has had his fair share of problems because of the way others perceive him.
Both straight and gay people often make fun of him, with gay activists even accusing him of being overly gay and tarnishing the reputation of other homosexuals. He had a particularly hard time at school, and didn’t know another gay person in the world. Girls didn’t want to be his friends because he was too girly, and boys dreaded the thought of spending time with him.
However, all the cruelty he encountered during his teenage years made him focus on himself and explore the world, eventually becoming one of the most successful people in the United Kingdom.
