After rising to prominence as the winner of The X Factor, Joe McElderry found the courage to admit to himself and to the world that he was gay. The press often made speculations about his sexuality, but the talented singer always denied rumors he was homosexual and instead claimed he was seriously into girls.
He decided to come out in a moving interview with the Mirror, just one week after he informed his mom he was, in fact, not the least bit straight. When asked why he pretended to like girls, Joe said he was not aware of his sexuality for a long time and believed he should be attracted to females. Once he got to know himself a bit better, the young star realized there was no point in hiding the truth any longer and made up his mind it was time to be completely honest with his fans.
