19. Ricki Lake
Ricki has never been one to keep quiet about her weight struggles whilst very much in the public eye. After ballooning to a maximum of 266 pounds, Ricki is now a rather svelte like 112 pounds. You do the math; it’s nothing short of incredible. Ricki Pamela Lake was born to Barry and Jill Lake, in Hastings-on-Hudson, New York, where she attended Ithaca College and the Professional Children’s School.
Although she is for her talk show, which was broadcast internationally 1993–2004, she is also a producer and an actress. Ricki made her film debut as Tracy Turnblad, the lead character in John Waters’ 1988 cult-classic Hairspray.
She was in over twenty movies, but her television career is the thing that made her into a household name. Her troubles with weight started in the early 1990s, when it peaked at 260 pounds (122 kg). She cited sexual abuse as a child as a reason for her problems with obesity. “I was molested as a young child aged six and I think that is what contributed to my being overweight and obese in later years,” she says. In early 2007, Lake pursued a “new routine” resulting in 24 pounds of weight loss, taking her down to 120 pounds (55 kg).
