15. Kirstie Alley
Kirstie Alley is one famous face who’s gained and lost weight in the public eye, rather dramatically over the years. Kirstie Louise Alley was born in Wichita, Kansas where she attended Wichita Southeast High School and Kansas State University before moving to Los Angeles to pursue Scientology and work as an interior designer.
She made her movie debut in 1982 in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, playing the Vulcan Starfleet officer Lieutenant Saavik, but her big break came five years later. In 1987, she joined the cast of Cheers, replacing Shelly Long and remaining on the show until its eleventh and final season. For the role, she has won an Emmy Award and a Golden Globe Award as the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series in 1991.
In March 2010, Alley launched Organic Liaison, which includes Rescue Me, the first USDA-certified organic weight loss product. One year later, she announced that she lost 100 pounds (45 kg) using the program. In an interview with “Dr Oz” she opened up about her weight struggles: “The first thing that happened to me was, I was always very conscious of my weight as an actress, and then I think it was about the end of 2003, I just thought screw it.
I just want to be a mom,” she told Dr. Oz. “I just want to spend time with my kids. I want to cook for them. I want to take care of them. I want to spend all my time with them and bake with them. Bake.” She continues: “What happened was I started baking with them and I started drinking grape sodas,” she added. “Do you know I was drinking 12 grape sodas a day? That’s when I really started putting on weight.”
