The 7-year age difference between Cougar Town star Couteney Cox and David Arquette took its toll in 2013, when the couple decided to separate after 11 years of marriage. Leaving no place for speculation, Arquette confirmed that they split because Cox had become more like a mother than a lover. He also admitted that after he and Cox hadn’t had sex for months, he turned to a younger woman. Here’s what he said:
“She says that to me: ‘I don’t want to be your mother anymore. I appreciated that. I respected that. I’ve been going to therapy. I’m trying to grow up. We’re not having sex, and I completely understand.”
Ironically, Cox took pride in being with a much younger man, and even enjoyed being named a cougar. Here’s what she said a few months before they called it quits:
‘I’ve been blazing that trail for 10 years now. My husband David is much younger than me (there is a seven-year age gap between them) and I think it’s great to be a cougar.’’
