5. BIJOU PHILLIPS
Bijou Lilly Phillips, the American model, actress and musician, started out as a model but soon decided to try out in acting and music as well. She starred in Almost Famous, Octane, Bully, Black and White, Choke, The Door In The Floor and several other movies, and is also known for the recurring role of Lucy Carlyle, Hope’s biological mother, in the TV series Raising Hope.
As a model, Phillips appeared in many high-profile campaigns, most notably in ads for Calvin Klein. Phillips wasn’t really born in Africa, but her mother, Genevieve Waite, was a famous South African model and artist. Her father was John Phillips of The Mamas & The Papas fame.
After her parents split, they were both deemed unfit to raise children so Bijou had to spend some time in foster care. At the age of 14 she had her own apartment in Manhattan with a maid and car service and was a regular fixture in the NYC nightclub scene.
