Steve Nash is a professional NBA player who throughout his career has played for several NBA teams, including Phoenix Suns, Dallas Mavericks and Los Angeles Lakers. However, Nash is not an American but a Canadian, and a South Africa-born one, too.
The eight-time NBA All Star and two-time recipient of the NBA MVP Award, Nash was born in Johannesburg to Welsh mother and English father. His family moved to Canada when he was a baby, settling first in Saskatchewan and then in British Columbia. Like all good Canadians, his first sport was hockey, and he was good at it. He started playing basketball in high school and got serious about it in college.
After graduating from Santa Clara with a degree in sociology, Nash was selected 15th overall by Phoenix Suns in 1996, and the rest is history. Steve Nash retired in 2015 after 19 years of playing for NBA as one of the best point guards of all time.
