17. CHARLIZE THERON

The gorgeous South African-American actress and model is one of the most beautiful women of our times. She was born in Benoni, Province of Transvaal in South Africa, in 1975. She comes from an Afrikaner family and her great-great-uncle was Danie Theron, a prominent figure of the Second Boer War.

She grew up on her parents’ farm in Benoni. In 1991, when she was 16, her alcoholic father assaulted her mother and threatened both of them so her mother shot and killed him. Theron was sent to a boarding school in Johannesburg and studied arts. Theron and her mother moved first to Italy and then to United States.

She had some minor roles in Hollywood and appeared on the cover of Vanity Fair in 1999. In 2000 she starred in four movies, Reindeer Games being one of them, but the true success came in 2003 when she starred in Monster, for which she won an Oscar, a SAG Award and a Golden Globe, becoming the first woman from South Africa to win an Oscar for the best actress.
