6. George Patton
Yes, we are talking that George Patton, quite possibly the most famous U.S. Army general of all time, and also the most controversial. The guy was just too intense and too outspoken. That being said, he was also one hell of a soldier.
The man who delivered some of the most famous speeches in military history managed to survive WWII, despite joining his guys at the front lines more than a few times. Still, he couldn’t make it past 1945.
In December 1945, Patton died in a car accident that was not that serious at all. He hit his head against the partition glass, suffered a compression fracture and a spinal injury. He died in hospital after 12 days in hospital. While in hospital, he reportedly said:
“This is a hell of a way to die.”
