4. Ice-T
It’s not rare that a person joins the military because he simply wishes to get the financial and practical benefits. Actor and rapper Ice-T is one of those people, and he remembers his tough upbringing in South Los Angeles. With a girlfriend and a daughter, he realized that he had to provide support for them somehow, and joining the Army seemed like the right thing to to. He remembers his fears of losing his family and says: “Next thing you know, I’m in the military, four years infantry.”
Apart from a small scandal where a group of soldiers stole an infantry rug and subsequently deserted, Ice-T had a pretty decent military career. During his deployment in Hawaii, he served as a squad leader at Schofield Barracks. Later on he wrote memoirs and, according to his writing, this was where he purchased his first stereo equipment. Turntables, speakers and a mixer, it was all there. He built financial stability, developed skills and afterwards launched a successful career in entertainment.
