15. Jimi Hendrix
Jimi had very little choice when he was enlisted in the army. Since he was caught not once but twice riding in stolen cars, he was given a choice whether he would serve time in prison or go to the Army. Of course, he chose the latter but as he recalls, the two were much less different than he expected them to be. He completed eight weeks of basic traning in Fort Ord, California and was then assigned to the 101st Airborne Division in Fort Campbell, Kentucky.
Jimi barely withstood the army. In his first letter back home he wrote about how it’s nothing more but straight up harassment and physical training, until you go to jump school which for him was pure hell. He almost snapped without his guitar and had his father send him his red Silvertone Danelectro. He started neglecting his duties so he could play more, for which he was punished, harassed and beaten by his superiors.
