12. Elvis Presley
No matter whether you love him or hate him, you have to give Elvis respect for not running away from duty. He was obliged to enroll in the Army just about the same time when he was experiencing a swift rise in fame – a rise that was rarely seen before or since in the music industry. Good ol’ Elvis simply traded his leather jacket for a soldier uniform and entered the Army as an average GI at Fort Chaffee in 1958.
He was stationed at Fort Hood during Basic Training and was later assigned to the Third Armored ‘Spearhead’ Division, and stationed in Friedberg, Germany. There he met his future wife, Priscilla Beaulieu, so not everything was crappy. He tried to keep a low profile while he was serving his time but we can only imagine how successful that could’ve been.
Once he was done with his duty in 1960, the king of rock ‘n’ roll was honorably discharged and received his incredible paycheck – an entire $109.54.
