6. SARAH MCLACHLAN
Sarah McLachlan, one of the most famous and successful Canadian musicians, and an internationally acclaimed singer-songwriter, was born in 1968 and adopted by Jack and Dorice McLachlan in Nova Scotia. Her parents told her she was adopted when she was nine years old. By her own admission, Sarah was not terribly upset when she found out. She said that no matter what, her parents are her parents and that’s that.
In a recent interview McLachlan said she actually looked for and met her biological mother. According to her, her mother was a 19 year old artist when she became pregnant and it was difficult for her to have a baby and move to Newfoundland. McLachlan was never bitter about the fact she was given for adoption and even defended her biological mother’s decision. She also said that her being adopted by such amazing people who gave her the opportunity to pursue her dreams was a true gift.
