The singer of The Beatles is probably one of the most appreciated musicians of all times. The songwriter genius made an indelible impression on the world we live in, and not just in music. As it often happens with people with such gift, Lennon did not have a happy childhood.
Lennon’s father was a merchant seaman who was away most of the time, including the day John was born. At one point he went AWOL and stopped sending checks to John’s mother Julia. When he came back six months later, Julia was pregnant with another man and refused to allow Alfred back into John’s life. He went to New Zealand and John didn’t see him for another 20 years.
Julia was unable to care for her son so John lived with his aunt and uncle, with his mother making occasional visits. Even though he didn’t live with her, John was close to her and learned a lot about music from her.
